Graduate Credit for Teachers PLTW

Teachers are eligible to apply for graduate credit at UMBC for their Core Training Institute. Graduate credit is offered for the Pathway to Engineering (PTE) courses as well as the Gateway to Technology (GTT) courses. All PTE courses (IED, POE, DE, CEA, AE, CIM, EDD) are eligible for 3 credits at the ENME500 level. GTT Foundation (AR and DM) is eligible for 3 credits. GTT Specialization (any combination of 4 units – ME, EE, GA, FS, MD (2 units), ST) is eligible for 3 credits. The tuition cost for a 3 credit course is $650.

In order to earn credit, teachers should apply to UMBC as a Non-Degree seeking graduate student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. This will require submission of official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended as well as an application fee. The Non-Degree seeking status allows an individual to complete 2 courses before applying to a degree program.

Once a teacher has received indication of admission to the graduate school, s/he should contact Dr. Jamie Gurganus jgurganus@umbc.edu to request permission to enroll in the appropriate course. Teachers will officially enroll in their courses in either the Winter or Summer sessions depending on when they are admitted to the graduate school.
